The Sports Technology Institute is one of the key partners involved in Project ESPRIT. The project team comprises of a number of leading academic, institutional and industrial partners, as well as sports governing bodies, who are working together to support the Team GB’s quest for gold medals in future World Championships.
By interacting with the sports community, and working with other members of the ESPRIT team, the Institute and colleagues at Loughborough University will generate innovative training solutions and sports equipment designs to secure competitive advantage for GB athletes.
Four key research themes have been identified by the team:
• Generalised Body Sensor Networks
• Optimised Sensor Design and Embodiment
• Learning, Data Modelling and Performance Optimisation
• Device and Technology Innovation
The Loughborough team working on the ESPRIT project comprises: Professor Mike Caine, Professor Paul Conway, Professor Andy West, three post-doctorate research assistants, a technician and two PhD students. The researchers are working on research packages totalling £1 million.
